Tidal Wave of Elephants

I am going to try to analyze this election.

First, thank you Tea Party for denying the Republicans the Senate. You helped rob them of wins in Alaska, Nevada, and Delaware (and a few others).

This election was not an endorsement of the Tea Party or Republicans. ~50% of respondents said the Tea Party had no bearing on their decision. Republicans are only slightly more favored than Democrats (~46% to 43%). In half the Senate races, the Republican won by less than 5 points. The same goes for the House, though the house had more races come in under 8 points.

If you think Obamacare will be repealed, the economy will recover, the budget will be balanced, and government will be more transparent, think again.

Healthcare isn’t going away with the Senate still controlled by the Democrats and Obama is still breathing (he does have veto power). Besides, the Repubs say they want a better bill but really haven’t offered any ideas. The time for that was in 2009 when we were debating the issue, dumbasses! I think I get it now; sabotage healthcare, make us mad at Dems, gain the House!

The economy is trying to get off its feet. It could improve, it could get worse. Who knows how the hell it works? Not spending the rest of the stimulus (the Congressional Budget Office (nonpartisan) has claimed that the stimulus did, in fact, create and/or save 1.4 - 3.3 million jobs) and firing tens of thousands of government employees won’t be good for the economy or the government. If I can get a passport in a week, keep them working!

The budget won’t be balanced unless you, A) Raise taxes, B) cut spending. Republicans want to keep Bush tax cuts, adding $3.7 TRILLION more in debt over ten years. Also, they haven’t mentioned what they are going to cut. Wasteful spending like a missile defense shield that won’t work (http://www.ucsusa.org/assets/documents/nwgs/cm_all.pdf) is supported by the Repubs. The Lame-Duck Congress will most likely pass a bill raising taxes on the richest 1% of Americans. But Dems are spineless cowards so it might not happen.

“More Transparency in Government” has been shouted to death. It ain’t happening. Never will.

Democrats, you suck. That is not a misprint. The DEMOCRATS suck at governing. They couldn’t pass anything even with a majority in both houses. Even when they did win, they let their opponents spin everything. They could have stood up and fought hard for their accomplishments, but they ran away with their tails between their legs. “We only have 59 votes in the Senate! We give up!” YOU DON’T NEED 60! A FILIBUSTER IS NOT GAURENTEED! (of course NOW, a filibuster is much more likely).

Republicans have a huge advantage when it comes to selling things to the people. They are great at creating labels and getting them to stick. Dems need to work on their people skills. When someone asks “How is this constitutional?”, don’t respond “Who cares if it is?”. Also don’t say “We don’t know what is in this bill, but we’ll find out after it’s passed and alter it from there!” (looking at you Pelosi…). Maybe they could have explained to the public that we can handle the spending and debt and that the economy is recovering.

Should I start to play “It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)”? No. This nation will endure as it has endured. One party will not kill America. We need to work together to get things done. Not all Republicans are bad or make for comedy on The Daily Show. Many are competent, hard working sane people who do want to reach across the aisle. Remember Scott Brown, the Republican who won Ted Kennedy’s seat? He voted FOR the Wall Street reform bill, one of four Republican Senators who did.

The Republicans who won today aren’t all crazy Tea Baggers who want to abolish government and think Obama is a racist Muslim from Kenya. They are not my new favorite phrase: “pumpkin-assed forehead eyeball monsters”. Show some humanity, and let us make things work.

Thank You.
